On the invitation of Sir Thomas T., Manager of the South Indian School, Shahganj, the dance troupe was taken to perform dances on the occasion of the annual function of the above mentioned school on Feb. 15, 2014. There were three items: welcome dance, dance-drama and ashta-thalam. 1. The welcome dance expressed a hearty welcome to all august audience and gratitude to all who have helped to develop abilities, aptitudes and skills as well as wish all students a bright future. 2. The dance drama depicted the profound faith of the Canaanite woman (Mt. 15:21-28) in the Lord Jesus Christ, who, in turn, cast out the demon from her daughter. Thus, she was restored to wholeness and holiness of life. 3. In the ashta-thalam (VadyaNrityam) Artists dancing to the rhythm of eight different rhythmic instruments brought out the various expressions of Nav – Rasas (Bhava). The instruments that were being used in ashta-talam were Mridangam, Dholak, Kadam, Tabla, Ganjira, Chenda, Dholki and Tavil.

The audiences were spellbound by the recital of classical Bharatnatyam giving religious and human values. The Chief Guest, Dr.Pankaj Singh, Principal of RadikaBalVidyaMandir, Jaunpur highly appreciated the performance along with the audience. He wished them a bright future to preserve the Indian art, culture and dance. It was an occasion to make known to the public the existence of the NavSadhana Kala Kendra, a Post-Graduate College of Music and Dance. We experienced the cordiality and hospitality of Rev.Fr.Henry Andrade, Principal of St/John’s School, Jaunpur, while returning to Varanasi. We thanked him for his generosity and magnanimity and wished him and his colleagues blessings of the Lord.
