A special item of the day was the Kathak performance of Mrs. Urmila Sharma, a top grade Kathak artist in India residing in Allahabad, in other words, a leading exponent of the North Indian dance style known as Kathak, in which the face, the hands and feet are used to interpret the musical accompaniment. The colourful outfitted dance impressed with her graceful delicate hand and arm movements. She stole the show as she demonstrated her commendable control over the aspects of the dance. In doing so she not only, highly delighted and impressed the audience, especially through her footwork, but also communicated a spirit of abundance and joy to them. Her performance indeed drew thunderous applause from the audience. She was accompanied by Mr. Rahul Malik in Tabla, Mr. Manjit Kumar in Pakaavaj, Mrs. Sangeeta Rai in Vocal and Mrs. Urmila Sharma’s disciples Miss Suganta and Puja. This item was sponsored by Mr. Anurag Singh, Regional Officer of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). We are grateful to him for his genial gesture.
