A seminar on FOLK SONG was organized in Milan Hall, Nav Sadhana Kala Kendra, Varanasi on Aug. 8, 2015. The Resource Person was Dr. Mannu Yadav, Professor in B.H.U., Varanasi. He is an international Folk Song Singer and knowledgeable person. He came with his team members: Harmonium accompanist Mr. Virendra Kumar, Dolak accompanist Mr. Mahendra Kumar, Kartaal accompanist Mr. Arvind Singh and Jhajh accompanist Mr. Chanchal Yadav.
Dr.Mannu Yadav started his presentation with Birah Geet invoking Godâ€™s blessing on all. He continued to sing chaiti, aalha, birahani, purabi, fag and lagni geet in the form of birah, which enchanted and encaptured the heart of every individual present in the hall. He demonstrated that when one sings aalha geet it is natural to go up and down the tone and music, as it is sung with unction. Folk songs are sung at the time of plantation, weeding, harvest as well as festival time.Â Folk songs are connected to the major events in the life of great persons and country. Dr.Fr.V.Sebastian, Principal of the college honoured Dr. Mannu Yadav presenting a shawl. Sir Govind Verma thanked Dr.Mannu Yadav for his lively and captivating presentation of folk song. The students were extremely happy to listen to his songs and expressed gratitude to the principal for having organized this seminar.
